I watched a very interesting English program on SBS called "allergies". To cut a long story short, they followed the lives of 2 families with 2 young children each who had a lot of allergies.  After many blood tests, stool sample tests, swabs of their carpets, bench tops, toys etc, their conclusion was
that the children had hardly any good bacteria in their guts; one due to a stay in ICU at birth and the other to heavy antibiotic treatment as a toddler.
One of the scientist involved in the survey said something that really resonated with me; he said that we live in a world that is way too sterile, we don't pick up bacteria from animals, fungi from the forest, pollen from the trees, our houses are loaded with chemicals in carpets, benches, plates to keep them "squeaky clean" and our immune systems have forgotten how to put up a fight against the bad guys and how to recognise the good ones.
Because of lack of good bacteria in the gut, the bad ones take over and affect our whole being.
Candida is a typical bad bacteria that i see a lot of in the clinic; it does much more than just create bloating and IBS symptoms...it can affect your memory, your ability to cope with stress, all your organs of elimination such as lungs, kidneys, bowels, skin and overtax your liver...the list of candida related symptoms grows every year.
A simple solution is to keep antibiotics for extreme conditions and to take a good probiotic at the same time to replenish the loss of good guys killed by the antibiotics.
Another one is to integrate the use of prebiotics  and probiotics in your every day diet with Kefir, Kombucha, sauerkraut, Kim Chi as the old European and middle eastern cultures used to.
Another step is to stop using chemicals in your sacred sanctuary and go back to natural cleaning agents that will clean but not "sterilise" your home such as lemon juice, vinegar and carb. of soda with essential oils. All of these can be made at home at very low prices so you save a mint at the supermarket register and have a healthier home for your family.
Let the children play outside, in a park and dig the dirt, let them handle cats and dogs and chooks and they will be healthier for it.
Do not dry clean their clothes or if really needed make sure you air them afterwards for a week to get rid of the chemicals. Do the same thing for new clothes you buy, most of them are made in China and are dunk in chemicals to make the cheap material look and sit better.
With the best of intentions, we have bred a race of alien children who don't seem able to adapt to survive the environment on earth. Might be time to reverse the pendulum and go back to Nature and to " the old ways".

Find happiness in every minute of your day
